Overview
The indicators of SDG 6.3.2, "Proportion of bodies of water with good ambient water quality" and 6.6.1, "Change in the extent of water-related ecosystems over time" are useful to guarantee water availability, sustainable management and basic sanitation for all.
The workshop was held within the framework of the project "South-South Cooperation and Capacity Building for the GEO 6 Latin America and the Caribbean Process.
" The objective of this project is to strengthen the capacities of countries in the region, to monitor the state and trends of the environment and the implementation of the 2030 agenda for Sustainable Development, the initiative for Sustainable Development of the Forum of Ministers for Latin America and the Caribbean (ILAC) and other multilateral environmental agreements relevant to the region in follow-up to the Andean Data Congress for SDGs held in March 2017. The workshop was organized by UN Environment Colombia, Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), together with experts from the United States, Brazil, Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, Panama, Costa Rica, Venezuela and Colombia show how the capacities of Latin America and the Caribbean are being strengthened to monitor the state and trends of water resources in the continent.
Participants had the opportunity to learn about the progress of the Carebian countries, Costa Rica and Panama in the process of implementing the methodologies of the indicators that are part of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
