Topic: Disaster-Related and Climate Change Statistics
Overview
The primary objective of the workshop was to enhance national capacity in disaster-related and climate change statistics, strengthening the integration of international reporting frameworks such as the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and the Global Set of Climate Change Statistics and Indicators. The workshop brought together key stakeholders from the National Institute of Statistics of Cameroon (INS), the Direction de la Protection Civile (DPC), government ministries, United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator (UNRCO) to engage in discussions, hands-on training, and collaborative exercises.
The workshop aimed to:
- Strengthen technical capacities in disaster-related and climate change statistics.
- Enhance understanding of international statistical frameworks and guidelines.
- Improve governance and inter-agency collaboration for disaster-related data.
- Raise awareness about scientific information sources for disaster risk reduction.
- Revise the existing roadmap for monitoring and reporting under the Sendai Framework.
The event was funded under the 11th European Development Fund’s (EDF11) programme titled “Strengthening Disaster Risk Governance and Recovery Capacities.
