Food waste is one of the most avoidable sources of municipal solid waste, with significant impacts on climate, resource efficiency, and food security. This section presents globally aligned knowledge products to support prevention at source, particularly in urban areas where most waste is generated. For İstanbul and Türkiye, rapid urbanisation and expanding food systems make food waste a critical entry point to advance circular economy goals, reduce emissions, and strengthen sustainable urban development.
