Overview

A National Workshop on Climate Change and Disaster-related statistics will be organised in Amman, Jordan for three days from 3 to 5 December 2024 by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD), the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) in collaboration with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Department of Statistics in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan as part of the Statistics and Data Project “Resilient and agile National Statistical Systems to meet post-COVID-19 data needs to recover better” under the 14th tranche of the United Nations Development Account (DA14 project).

The main goal of the national workshop is to increase the technical capacity for Climate Change and Disaster-related statistics in the country, by bringing the various stakeholders together to provide hands-on training on priority topics related to climate change and disasters, building on the extensive work of the UN in Jordan on Climate Change and Disasters at the local and national levels.

The target audience for the national workshop are national agencies that are responsible for the collection and dissemination of environment, climate and disaster-related statistics and data, as well as for the development of policy documents in relevant areas.

The participants could be from the Department of Statistics, The Ministry of Environment, the Jordanian Civil Defense, Ministry of Interior, and other relevant agencies, including non-governmental organizations and academia.
