Overview
A capacity building webinar for the Regional Organisation for the Protection of Marine Environment (ROPME) Member States, including Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
The session focused on the methodology, compilation and collection of data for indicators on SDG 14 "Life Below Water" under UNEP custodianship, including Indicator 14.1.1 (a) Index of coastal eutrophication, and (b) plastic debris density, Indicator 14.2.1 Number of countries using ecosystem-based approaches to managing marine areas, and Indicator 14.5.1 Coverage of protected areas in relation to marine areas.
ROMPE’s work is built around the Kuwait Regional Convention for Cooperation on the Protection of the Marine Environment from Pollution and its protocols, and marine data is a key aspect of its work.
