Overview

On 16-18 July 2018 UN Environment and UNECE joined forces with the Committee on Statistics of Kazakhstan in the organization of a national capacity building workshop aimed at advancing knowledge and information on environmental information systems and effective application of SEIS environmental data sharing principles, and to improve capacity for the production of environmental statistics and information products for monitoring progress on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Focusing on waste and water statistics, and introducing material flow accounts, the workshop also aimed at strengthening national capacities for the production of municipal and industrial waste statistics, as well as electronic waste statistics, in support of reporting and assessments.

Experts from United Nations University (UNU) and from Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU) joined the team of expert presenters and trainers convened by UN Environment and UNECE at the request of the Committee on Statistics of Kazakhstan.

More than 30 participants attended the workshop, representing 4 Ministries (Ministry of national economy, Ministry of agriculture, Ministry for investments and development, Ministry of energy of Kazakhstan), 1 NGO - Scientific Research and Education Center “Green Academy” and Statistics Committee's regional departments from all 17 regions of Kazakhstan.
